Audenis is a family business based in the heart of Barcelona, with more than 90 years of history. What do they sell? Everything, if music related! Instruments, books, and also special jewels that we will see at Cremona Musica 2022. Waiting to meet them, we interviewed Isabel Audenis.
You are active in many businesses, selling both instruments and music books. How would you introduce Audenis to someone who doesn’t know you?
Audenis is a family business with more than 90 years of history, with four generations dedicated to the piano and the service of music.
In our large store located in the heart of Barcelona's Eixample, you can find all kinds of instruments on display, from grand pianos to string, wind and percussion instruments. Our range is completed with a bookshop specializing in music, which contains a catalog of more than 40,000 titles including sheet music and books and a section for musical gifts.
Audenis has a very long history, can you tell us something about the beginning?
The professional history of our company begins at the end of the 19th century, when Pere Audenis i Domenech worked at the Chassaigne Fréres piano factory in Barcelona, where he became section manager.
His son Josep Audenis i Rimundi continued the profession of piano tuner and organ maker, and in 1928 he set up on his own in the shop at 116 Balmes street in Barcelona, succeeding the Tubau Hnos house, piano manufacturers. His son Josep Audenis Masjuan, a member of Europiano, the European Association of Piano Tuners, continued the shop. In 1978 we moved to the current store at 316 València street where Josep Audenis Masjuan and his wife Maria Prat created the sheet music section. Currently the owner's son and daughter run the company, each specializing in their sector: Josep Audenis in instruments, accessories and repairs and Isabel Audenis in sheet music and books, musical gifts and jewelry with musical design.
How do you select your publications?
The philosophy of our company has always been to offer materials that satisfy both the needs of the professional musician and the amateur. That's why we value the best editions to make a varied and quality repertoire available to our customers and we try to give them the best purchase options.
What are your best-sellers?
In the bookshop we sell all kinds of music but we specialize in classical music with specific sections for choral music, chamber music, Lied, orchestra and musical pedagogy. In the musical gifts section, the exclusive collection of handcrafted jewelry with musical designs, is one of the most valued products.
This is your first participation in Cremona Musica, why did you decide to join us?
It's a prestigious fair that we don't know firsthand, but all the opinions we've received are very positive and make us think that it fits very well with our company's philosophy. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to participate in it to present some of our products.
Do you already know what you are presenting at Cremona Musica 2022?
Yes, we have a very special, spectacular and exclusive collection of musical jewels in gold, silver and bronze that we think are very suitable for the event. It is a unique collection, with a lot of varied handmade designs. We think it's perfect to show it at a fair like Cremona Musica.
